19 February – Re-Potting Workshop

February’s meeting focuses on one of the most essential bonsai maintenance skills: re-potting. Proper re-potting ensures your trees remain healthy, grow in the correct direction, and continue developing strong root systems. This workshop is designed to give members hands-on guidance, practical tips, and a structured approach for all levels.

During the evening, members will learn how to assess when a tree needs re-potting, how to select the right soil mix, and how to handle delicate root systems without causing stress or damage. Emphasis will be placed on timing, technique, and long-term plant health.

Participants are encouraged to bring one or two trees that are ready for re-potting. Whether pre-bonsai, young training material, or established specimens, the workshop will offer tailored advice for each tree’s unique requirements. Experienced members will assist beginners to ensure a safe and instructive experience.

Please bring the necessary tools, including bonsai scissors, root hooks, wire cutters, and any pots you plan to use. Notebooks, reference photos, or previous development plans are also recommended to help plan the re-potting process and document the results.

The workshop will include live demonstrations, practical exercises, and open discussion. Members will leave with greater confidence in their re-potting technique and an understanding of how to plan future maintenance to support long-term tree health and design.

All members are encouraged to attend. If you have questions about preparing your tree for re-potting or what materials to bring, please email chair@redditchbonsai.co.uk or secretary@redditchbonsai.co.uk.
