November’s meeting is a Members’ Forum, centred around short presentations and open discussion on members’ favourite bonsai trees. This evening is designed to share experience, spark ideas, and encourage thoughtful conversation about tree development at all stages.
Members are invited to present one or more trees they particularly enjoy, explaining what drew them to the tree and how it has developed so far. These informal presentations often highlight valuable lessons, both successes and challenges, and provide insight into different approaches and species.
A key theme of the evening will be winter protection and care. Contributions are welcome on how members protect their trees during colder months, including storage options, frost protection, watering considerations, and species-specific needs. Sharing real-world approaches helps everyone prepare for winter with greater confidence.
This is also an excellent opportunity to bring along trees that leave you scratching your head. Whether the issue is health-related, a difficult design decision, slow progress, or general uncertainty, the forum format allows for multiple perspectives and practical input from fellow members.
Previous Members’ Forum evenings have been very well received, particularly by newer members. Trees discussed in this setting often benefit from clearer direction and improved care as a direct result of shared discussion and collective experience.
Please bring your tree(s), any photos or notes you wish to reference, and be prepared to contribute to discussion. Even if you prefer not to present, listening and asking questions is strongly encouraged.
All members are encouraged to attend, with new members especially welcome. If you have questions about presenting or what to bring, please email chair@redditchbonsai.co.uk or secretary@redditchbonsai.co.uk.
Redditch Bonsai Society (RBS) is a friendly and practical bonsai club serving Redditch, Worcestershire, and the wider Midlands. The society supports members at every stage of their bonsai journey, from beginners to experienced practitioners.
Member-led evenings such as the forum encourage shared learning and open discussion. By pooling experience across different species, styles, and growing conditions, members gain realistic, applicable advice that improves both tree health and design.
New members are particularly encouraged to take part in forum evenings. These sessions offer a relaxed environment to ask questions, receive guidance, and build confidence without pressure or expectation.
