April’s meeting features small-group workshops, giving members the opportunity to work closely on bonsai material supplied by the society or brought along by themselves. This interactive format allows for hands-on learning, personal guidance, and focused discussions in a smaller, more intimate setting.
After the workshops, the meeting will transition into a tree auction. Members are encouraged to bring bonsai trees they would like to sell or swap, providing an exciting chance to acquire new material and share cultivated specimens with other enthusiasts. The auction is an excellent way to refresh collections and discover inspiring examples of bonsai artistry.
Given the time of year, members are asked to bring along any tree(s) suitable for table display that are currently showing spring colour. This could include early leafing trees, flowering species, or any vibrant foliage. Displaying spring-coloured specimens enhances the educational aspect of the meeting and celebrates the seasonal beauty of bonsai.
Participants are encouraged to bring essential tools for working on their trees, including wire cutters, scissors, root hooks, notebooks, and pencils. Reference photos and sketches of desired styles or development plans can also be helpful during the workshops.
The evening provides both practical learning and community engagement, allowing members to gain insight from peers and mentors, share experiences, and develop trees in a supportive, structured environment.
All members are encouraged to attend. For questions about the workshops, auction, or table display requirements, please email chair@redditchbonsai.co.uk or secretary@redditchbonsai.co.uk.
Redditch Bonsai Society (RBS) is a welcoming community for bonsai enthusiasts in Redditch and across the Midlands. The society supports members at all skill levels with practical workshops, demonstrations, and themed meetings designed to enhance both horticultural and artistic understanding.
RBS places strong emphasis on hands-on learning, seasonal awareness, and long-term tree development. Members benefit from direct interaction with mentors and guest demonstrators, sharing knowledge and skills in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Events such as group workshops and auctions are a key part of RBS’s calendar, combining education with social interaction and the exchange of trees, tools, and ideas.
Yes, small-group workshops are designed to support all experience levels. Beginners receive guidance from mentors while more experienced members can tackle advanced techniques.
Bring any bonsai trees you wish to sell or swap. Clearly label each tree with relevant details and ensure it is in good condition.
You can work on material supplied by the society or bring your own. Bringing your own trees allows for more personal guidance and practical development.
Trees showing early leaves, flowers, or vibrant seasonal foliage are ideal for spring displays. This enhances both the educational and aesthetic aspects of the meeting.
