15th October 2026 – Redditch Bonsai Society Autumn Colour Show

October’s meeting is the Autumn Colour Show, one of the most anticipated and visually engaging events in the Redditch Bonsai Society calendar. This evening celebrates bonsai at a time of natural transition, where autumn colour, texture, berries, and seasonal atmosphere take centre stage.

Members are encouraged to bring along trees showing autumn interest in any form — changing foliage, fruit, bark character, or overall seasonal presence. Trees at all stages of development are welcome, and the emphasis is on seasonal expression rather than technical perfection.

Guests and members of the general public are very welcome to attend the Autumn Colour Show for a £3 guest fee. This makes the evening an ideal introduction to bonsai for anyone with a growing interest in the hobby, offering a relaxed and accessible way to experience a wide range of trees and styles in one setting.

In recent shows, there has been limited competition in the starter tree category — trees that began their bonsai journey less than three years ago — as well as in group plantings and landscapes. These categories are among the most accessible and welcoming formats, and members are strongly encouraged to enter if they have suitable material.

Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite trees, with winners in all categories decided by popular vote. Categories include overall show winners, shohin, chuhin, mame, starter trees, open class, and groups and landscapes. This inclusive approach ensures every attendee has a voice and helps reflect a broad appreciation of bonsai styles and stages.

Please bring your autumn-coloured trees, display stands if available, and any accent items that complement the season. Cameras and notebooks are encouraged — this is an excellent opportunity to gather seasonal reference material and inspiration.

All members, guests, and prospective members are encouraged to attend. For questions about exhibiting, categories, or guest attendance, please email chair@redditchbonsai.co.uk or secretary@redditchbonsai.co.uk.

First Time Visiting a Bonsai Show?

If you’ve never attended a bonsai show before, the Autumn Colour Show is an ideal place to start. The event is informal, welcoming, and designed to be enjoyed by both experienced enthusiasts and those completely new to bonsai.

You don’t need specialist knowledge to attend. Trees are displayed clearly, members are happy to answer questions, and the focus is on seasonal interest and enjoyment rather than technical judging alone.

Visitors are encouraged to take part by voting for their favourite trees across a range of categories. This popular-vote format means everyone’s opinion counts, regardless of experience level.

With categories such as starter trees (trees under three years in training) and group plantings and landscapes, the show highlights how accessible bonsai can be. Many displays begin with ordinary garden or nursery stock and develop over time.

Guests and members of the public are welcome to attend for a £3 guest fee. If you’ve ever been curious about bonsai, this evening offers a relaxed, friendly introduction with no obligation to join.
